"During my IB journey, mentorship was transformative, seamlessly blending real-life applications and contemporary research to make learning both engaging and impactful. The guidance I received ignited my passion for biomedical engineering and bioinformatics, particularly during the pandemic. I was mentored through research on mutations in the RdRp protein of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and their effects on its binding to the drug remdesivir, significantly enhancing the quality of my work and deepening my interest in research.
This mentorship also inspired me to develop a research proposal at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, focused on novel perioperative cancer therapy aimed at preventing recurrence while promoting surgical wound healing. This proposal earned a $4,500 grant, marking a significant milestone in my academic journey.
